VISEGRÁD CONFERENCE 2011
Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to invite you to the conference on “Communication: a tool to enhance statistical culture” to be held in the framework of the Hungarian EU Presidency in Visegrád, Hungary, on 9 and 10 June 2011.
One of the aims of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is to contribute to the creation of a stronger Europe. Statisticians have their role to play in this process by strengthening the ESS in all its aspects. Communication is in this respect a major tool to increase awareness about the use of statistics and enhance statistical culture. We hope our conference will serve as an appropriate forum for exchanging views and experience in this important field not only for statisticians and researchers, but also for journalists and representatives of other professions.
The four sessions of the conference will be dedicated to the statistical literacy and European democracy, the questions of the responsibility of statisticians and the responsibility of users of statistics, as well as the trust in institutions, trust in statistics, statistical culture.
I am convinced that our work will contribute to enhancing statistical culture in the European Statistical System.
